I have seen numerous posts and read the manual regarding water pump / impeller replacement....I still don't understand on when / how you get the big-*** star into the smaller pump housing? What point is it done?

Any insight?

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Slide the impeller onto the drive shaft so the key lines up with the slot in the impeller. Slide the housing down the drive shaft to meet the impeller. Rotate the drive shaft clockwise while pressing the housing over the impeller. Piece of cake!

True, a piece of cake, but a little liquid dishwashing soap inside the housing, and on the impeller makes it easier.

counterclockwise will only kill a used impeller

i have spun new ones on counter clockwise, then spun the drive-shaft clockwise and the fins flop back

the whole reason is that to spin clockwise is that is the way the drive-shaft spins and flywheels, except on Honda's where the flywheel spins counterclockwise on some

That's how I did it. I also put a light coat of grease
on the inside of the housing. Had no trouble - with this part
of the procedure anyway.
