Yep I saw them. What a dandy rig. I'll bet she really flies. I still see tons of them motors around, in fact I still own a half dozen or so. But you don't see those boats every day. Good job, keep her running.

You would'nt happen to have something in the 20-30 hp range around a '53 model do you ? I've got a bid in on a Mercury MK28 25 hp on ebay , but I'm a OMC or Chrysler man personally .

Hi JHM<br /> I do indeed have a 53 evin 25hp long shaft. These earlier 50s model big twins are not as refined as the later models, like yours. The exhaust is louder and the suspendion system is not as nice. Years ago I use to fix up a lot of these motors an sell them to support my habit and make room for more junk. This worked pretty good for a while. The problem was I ran out of guys who had the mentality to operate them. A lot of times I gave them the motor with the purchess of a rebuilt tank. Any way it got to be more trouble than it was worth. I have never concidered my self a collecter and veiw these motors as a power sourse for a boat, nothing more. I also have two more 25hp (55-56) models, one I use on a regular basis. There isn't anything special about these motors, they just happened to be what was left. I figure they will last me until the day I don't need an outboard any more, then some other nut can have what ever is left. Over the years I have acquired and worked on most all the brands of outboards. The brands that no longer exist I 've allways tried to find a good home with a collector type person (usually a trade or gift). Be carefull if you start scrounging around in this outboard stuff, the stuff will start to find you. Then you'll be up to your ears in it. Good luck enjoy your hobby, I do.
