Attaching SP wire to coil

Coil has a fine wood screw looking thing to attach the spark plug wire. Do I jsut screw the wire onto/into the screw? The old coils sort of exploded in antique mist when I removed them...and it seems the original attach method isn't same as current.
BTW, whoever designed the spark plug wire holders under the ignition stuff needs a swift kick. Why not a nut instead of a flat head screw? I'm sure if I had the full Snap-on rolling tool box there'd be just the right tool, but not so lucky.

The old coils had a pin and the new ones have the screw, as you noticed. Push the wire in, rotating it as you do.

Hey, there is a reason that mechanics have $$$ worth of tools. It isn't just for funsies.

Those flat head screws would come out in a heartbeat if you had a hand impact screwdriver. Probably one of the most important tools an outboard (or wannabe) mechanic can own.

I just did those coils myself, broke the first coil spike and had to reorder.

Lacking an impact driver ...you can get the screws by holding a straight screwdriver BIT with pliers, put a slight twisting pressure on it as you tap the end of the bit with something heavy, I have a small lead deadblow machinist hammer which worked well in a tight place. The method works quite well.
