In the course of getting familiar with my boat this spring and inspecting all the systems I came across this corrosion that caused a hole in the water passage of my outdrive. I had seen the Alumaloy commercials and thought "why not". I searched the internet but couldn't find much to satisfy my curiosity. I did come across a similar product at Home Depot made by Benzomatic withthe same working temp. Two sticks cost about 2.50 . I bought a few and a mapp gas torch. One saturday my buddy and I set about to repair the hole.
The original hole.
The enlarged hole and brazing in progress.
The hole after its bridged/filled.
Ginding the raised surface level.
Shortly after the grinding pic was taken the entire mass became dislodged and was obviously not bonded to the surface and was removed.
In short, it didn't work. I could get the brazing product to melt and fill/bridge the hole but not bond. In the end we went another route but I figured, even though it was a bust, someone else may benefit from this experience.
