Joe,

I have another question for you. I adjusted the cam on the throttle yoke, so that I would have the 4 31/32" length between the yoke and the throttle rod base. With the pickup timing set and held in place with the idle adjustment screw, the cam was advanced too far forward, to what looked like a position of 1/2 throttle. In order to have the cam pick up the follower on the scribed marks on the cam, as in the picture, I had the back the cam down 3 turns. There is another rod at the top of the lever that advances the stator or timing. I am wondering if the one on here could be too short or something. I don't know what that smaller diameter rod is called, maybe the timing rod, but you wouldn't happen to know the proper length of this bugger, would you?

Thanks,
cvlngineer

That 4-31/32" measurement is to be made from the outside (back edge) of that threaded rod to the edge of that nylon yoke. Some make the error of measuring from the center of where that rod enters the throttle lever. Keep in mind that the carburetor throttle roller is adjustable and the scribe mark on the cam should line up with the center of the roller just when the throttle butterflies start to open.

However, shopuld you absolutely need to change that measurememt slightly, one must do what one must do. Just make sure that when you apply full throttle/full spark advance, the carb butterflies are fully opened.

That smaller top linkage that goes from the top of the throttle arm to the timer base is simply called a Spark Advance Link and is not adjustable.

Joe,

Thanks for the reply. I did measure from the center of where the rod enters the throttle lever, oops! Measuring from the back edge of the rod to the nylon yoke should bring it closer to the mark. I was wondering about the spark advance link because I wanted to make certain that the guy that pieced the motor together for me did, indeed, put the right one on here. I will remeasure the throttle rod again, as it appears that this will probably bring it to where it will line up correctly.

Thanks, I will post any findings,

cvlngineer

Joe,

I went out and measured again, and it is right at 4 31/32 inches. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

cvlngineer
