A few years back I bought my kids some hardly used, second hand ATV's, I think they're 110cc's and they're 4 strokes. BAsically it's a chinese product that is a Honda copy knock off.

Anyway, my wife quickly determined that these are too dangerous so they've been sitting and now I want to get rid of them. One of my buddies who is a mechanic bought one as is, went through it and is enjoying watching his kid tool around. I decided to get the other working and then throw it on Cragislist.

I replaced a few scuffed body parts as well as the fuel tank which had a crack in it, cleaned the carb real well, replaced the fuel lines and the battery. Fired right up and ran perfectly. I drove it around our property for about 15 minutes, adjusted everything and went back to the garage. Left it idle while I picked up my tools and during the 2 minutes it was idling it died. I figured it needed to be run more or still had dirt in the carb, so I was going to pack it up for the day and return to it later for another round of cleaning. No start. Rechecked everything and now I have no spark, period.

This is a 4 stroke, has a coil and a CDI box. I noted that the CDI box had moved out of it's mount and had a very minor burn spot on the plastic casing, but this was before I even got it started and it ran fine. I have no idea how tgo check a CDI box, and since it costs $4.95 I bought another and it's on the way.

Anyone have any ideas what could have happened? I went through and rechecked all the wiring and couldn't find anyy problems, burn insulation, etc. Everything looks new. All connections have continuity from point A to point B. This leads me to believe its either the CDI box, the coil, the stator or the regulator.

Any thoughts would be great as I'd like to get past this and get to more important things like my boat.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Brian.

At $4.95 does the CDI "box" have anything in it?

Its cheap & it cant handle the strain of normal use.

That or something got wired wrong and it fired. But Im leaning with the cheap theory.

If you want cheap fun, buy some ATC's!

These Chinese Quads are all over craigslist for the sole reason they suck.
