I have been plagued by intermittent audible alarm on my four winns / mercruiser 2007 5.0 tks carb for past 2 years .Water temp ok , lube oil bottle ok and engine oil ok.Turned out to be broken and loose threaded battery terminal that I had over tighten and this caused a poor connection. Those threaded terminals just sit on top of battery in lead type base they can easily be broken loose in time.Suggest use of larger main round posts.Result alarm gone now.

The issue you described is in the adults only section to remove the wing nuts and replace them with hex-head nuts. You can get more torque with a wrench then your fingers. The high dollar batteries use bolts which screw into the battery terminals and they are copper plated.

Thanks for reply .The battery was a $174. INTERSTATE with a 1 " stainless hex head bolt but onviously I was over torquing the hex nut and over 3 years finally loosened the bolt out of its base with hex wrench .Everything fine now .
