Fished Sat in the ocean off of western Long Island,NY until the weather turned ugly and we headed back to the East. About 11:00 am a wall cloud formed around the Brooklyn/Queens border and then the funnel sank to the earth. Whoda thunk I would see my first tornado in Brooklyn. I was about 2 miles east and it lasted about a minute. Damage to beach clubs and homes, and some vehicles were pushed around into each other in the parking lots. Pic above is from the local news station. Heading back out now to make up for the lost time. Hope it's a little less bumpy today.

I've always been intrigued with tornadoes. Never came up close and personal with one. If I did, I may change my tune. Closest was seeing 4 water spouts in an afternoon while sitting on the deck of a beach side condo in Orange Beach, AL. One came ashore 2 miles down the road. Just messed up some tents at shrimp fest. Took some pics of the spouts. One, I zoomed in at the base and you could see water being splashed up............

I'm probably mistaken, but I don't recall ever hearing about tornadoes in NYC?

They are very rare but do form occassionally. There was one that touched down quickly near my home on Aug 10 this year on eastern Long Island. This latest one was well defined, classic looking, and was on a Saturday afternoon. Usually we nver see them embedded in a dark storm, but this one was captured on film by thousands.
Today is just a perfect day on the water, but the fish are taking the day off too. Lunch is over. Back to the rail.

You should have watched the news this morning! It was on a few channels,including the weather channel,I think.
