auto a/c fan question

hello.<br />1999 suzuki grand vitara v6 4x4. 104000 miles<br /><br />A/C went out(compressor) about 3 years ago, and we havent fixed it untill nexxt week. replaced compressor, sucked with vacuum pump, , etc....<br /><br />now the fan stopped blowing. just stopped today. checked all fuses, OK. <br /><br />how can i check or test or pull the fan motor to tell if thats the problem, ive never done AC fan motor before<br /><br />any hints or ideas?<br /><br />m ikey

Usually if you can get to the cage of the fan and turn it by hand they will start to run again. Most fan motors are pretty hard to kill unless they have sat a long time. Sitting causes corrosion on the contacts and on occasion they need a push.<br /><br />Bob

The fan probably wasn't sitting for a long time, even though the ac was broken the fan still operated for heat, defrost, vent, etc.

i never used the fan at all... we live in south florida, no need for heat!

Mike,<br /><br />The fan is a high amp device. You say you checked the fuses-OK. However, you probably have a distribution box under the hood that contains high amp circuit breakers/fuse. Check there.

Well then Bob's idea might hold true, worth a shot. That is young for a motor to have gone out, but living in florida, not using it, with salt air in every direction, could have just corroded it up a little and it might just need some "encouragement"...

Mike,<br /><br />Heater-A/C fan motors usually have a air vent (hose to A/C evap. core) line that goes to the rear bearing. A little WD-40 in that opening may be of help.
