Auto and marine engines blocks?

I know this has been asked an answered but so many times with multiple different answers
are automotive and marine engine blocks the same?
I.E. is my 2.5 merc the same as a 2.5 gm of similar age?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... Nope, they're Not the same,....

Yer boat motor is a 153cid Chevy based motor,...
The GM auto motor is a 151cid Pontiac design, the Iron Duke,....

And it was only put in 1 car for a couple years. The 3.0l was never in a car.

Not hard to find as long as you look in boats. The 2.5/3.0 is probably the most common I/O engine out there.
