I have a 1987 mercury classic fifty with the autoblend system that I want to do away with. Can I just run a new fuel line from tank to motor and unplug the unit? Or do I have to do something to the motor as well?

I think you are talking about a tank separate from the engine, like I had on my '88 115 hp "tower of power" and what Merc. did prior to adding the tank to the engine proper and using a geared (to the crankshaft) internal oil pump. Fine. May have a low oil alarm that you will have to disable...don't remember, removing the power plug may accomplish that...sold the boat in '95...been awhile....either short the sense wires together or leave them disconnected. Don't forget to add oil (pint/6 gallons TC-W3 rated) when you fill up...I wrote it on my transom adjacent to my fill port so I wouldn't forget.

Excellent advice about writing on the transom, and yes, it’s an in-line separate tank with a pump on it that pumps oil into the fuel as it goes through the line
