1st thanks for all the help in previous posts. I don't trust the autoblend system with my '86 90hp merc., so any suggestions on how to best mix the oil and gas and get it into my 40 gal. built in tank. I could always mix it in a 6 gal tank and then dump it in the built in but that will take forever. Anyone out there have an answer to this proplem?

Just throw the appropriate amount in the tank. It should mix up just fine. Just don't forget to put it in there like I did. :D :p

Force motors have a 50:1 sticker on them. Order two. One for the motor by the fuel connector, one for the fuel fill fitting. Add 16oz oil per 6gal gas...or 2 2/3 oz per gal. You'll need something to measure it. 40 gallons??? Planning on a transAtlantic trip??? Use some fuel stabilizer all year round. A lot of that gas is going to be in that tank for a very long time.

Make sure you diconnect the autoblend, or you will be mixing double oil if it's still working. You may also need to remove some of the alarm wiring. And certainly follow the sticker advice from Willy. If someone else uses your boat and it has no stickers that state it needs pre.mix, they may just put straight fuel in and go. Not Good!! BOOM!!!

Add the oil first, then add the pump gas. It will "auto-swirl". Remember to account for the gas already in the tank the first time out.

Of much more concern is the fuel in the line between the tank and the late auto-blend. You should really take the outboard fitting off the end of your fuel line (only the first time out) and hand pump about a gallon through (and back into your tank). This will insure you have NO unmixed fuel reaching your outboard on the first time out! Troll around for a bit when you first start out (only the 1st time) and verify the motor is smoking before you hammer it.

If you easily forget ratios, it's *easy* to remember that 1 quart per ten gallons is 40/1. Keeping that in mind, I use 1 quart per 12 gallons. The stickers are a REAL good idea too.

Use a qood quality ashless TCW-3 rated oil. Those inlines have a bit of an issue with "coking" over time. I use the Pennzoil Synthetic Blend that's found at Wal-Mart for about $9 a gallon. Excellent value for the dollar!

Use Mercury Power Tune once a year as directed on the can to help prevent coking. Because of the 3 carb setup, it's hard to stall it out with the stuff as directed on the can, I use 3 cans, one in each hand. :D

-W

Then comes the muriatic acid. <sigh>

My friend Charlie in the mid 80's had a really cute little minx of a girlfriend who forgot to put the oil in (3 cylinder 70). Same thing. Funny, she didn't last the season.... :D
