Automatic bilge pump

My 22 year old bilge pump finally died. It is on a panel switch. I was looking at the automatic non-float bilge pumps and was wondering if anyone has one and the positives or negatives. Apparently they turn on every couple of minutes and if they sense resistance they continue to pump. They don't need a flow switch. I am a day boater only so I doubt I would have to worry too much about the drain on the battery.<br /><br />Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I have one and it works fine.The sound of it kicking on every few minutes can be annoying especially if you are trying to catch a nap.I dont think they are on the market any longer though.

Attwood makes a series, (3 sizes), that has the float switch built in. Only comes on if water level rises. I don't see any advantage to an automatic pump that cycles every few minutes.

I have the one jevery is talking about. Never had a problem with it. I also had the one that turns on every few minutes on another boat. It just died after three years. I guess it turning on constantly just kills it. If you do get that kind, make sure you disconnect it after you pull your boat out of the water.

I have the automatic Rule 500. It is very small and will mount in a very tight bilge space where a regular pump and switch won't fit. It keeps the bilge very dry, but I also have the main bilge pumps available several inches higher. <br /><br />TresGatos
