I have a stable engine stand which I would like to put my 2006 Yamaha 150 HP 4 stroke powerhead on. These stands are and have been used for years by many mechanics and not so mechanics. When I look at my Yamaha block and where I would place the bolts I get the head scratcher question. Auto engines are more often cast steel whereas outboards are cast aluminum. Outboard powerheads are made to be light weight . I am questioning the integrity of the block to be mounted on one of these stands. the base of the engine would be mated to the mounting plate of the stand with only 4 bolts, more if the holes line up. I would get some good thick all threads and cut them to size. I dont doubt the ability of the allthread as much as I do the aluminum casing to hold up the rest of the block. At one end the base connecting to the stand . The other end is the weight of the rest of the engine with or without the flywheel still attached hanging unsupported. I can support it (the flywheel end)of course but am still concerned with possible damage to the block. Does anyone use these stands? Is it safe to use one ?

What kind of work are you planning on doing to the power head?

Since a power head sits vertically on a mid-section, bolting it horizontally to an auto engine stand doesn't sound like a great idea. There is a good chance of ripping the threads out of the block.

My bigger concern was to crack the block at the bolt holes. My plan was to run a pressurized diesel oil mixture through the block from where the oil pump feeds into the block. I have the mid section off so that I can inspect and clean the oil pump and screen. All due to the gear disintegrating within the balancer. I am trying to remove suspect particles without pulling the crank and pistons out.
