Automotive Coil in my Boat?

Am I asking to blow myself up or is this OK.

I've read a lot of posts of people using Mallory and Thunderbolts (aren't these automotive?).

I'm thinking of buying Napa's coil for my AQ 130.

PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF THIS IS TROUBLE.

You're ok.

A coil has no moving parts, no contacts to arc. All the action (magnetic induction) takes place in a sealed steel can, it's even filled with refractory oil.

It's a good idea to put a bit of dielectric or silicone grease on the high voltage rubber "booties" to seal out moisture.

Although a coil may be sold as "marine", there is nothing different about them.. as far as I can see or know. Some guys say to use epoxy filled only... i say that's an urban legend.

The Napa coil should be a marine coil made by Sierra,If you asked for marine.
But as stated the coil should not matter..

I put a 'High Performance' coil on my engine when I re-powered a few years ago and it didn't last very long. A marine engine is mounted solidly and therefore shakes things to death. I replaced it with a 'High Vibration' MSD coil and it has not let me down yet.

Coils come in different configurations. Make sure if you have points that the coil is so designed. Put 12 volts to a 'points type' coil and it will fry in short order. There are internal/external resistor types etc. I don't think the epoxy or oil filled are much different as Kagee stated for a boat application.
