After checking the filter "screen" on my 1975 135 Johnson after the engine was not running well, I decided to add an automotive high flow filter to the fuel line. Any issues I should be worried about? The engine ran great after adding the filter and tweaking other issues in the engine, so I do not have a problem now. Just curious if this might be an issue after reading some other posts about fuel and fuel related probelms.

Thanks

Not gonna hurt, but it's not gonna replace the need for a water separator.

Re: Automotive fuel filter OK?

i had a problem with one of those off the shelf filters for cars, the thing was so big that the pump had to fill it, then fill the carbs, problem was the filter had to be laying flat and the filter that was installed was vertical so the gas was never getting picked up from the filter. i changed it to a smaller one for motorcycles that was able to be vertical with out problems and it worked fine. But if you do use a large on like that you can help the pump out at first by pumping the bulb till the filter is full, that also seemed to work i just didnt want to have to do that every time i went out. Angus is right though, it wont seperate water so you still would have to deal with that. Good luck
