Is there any reason an automotive head gasket can't be used for a boat that's never going to be in salt water? The boat is a 1981 model Mercruiser 120.

Re: Automotive head gasket?

It's up to you. The pro's will disagree, but that's their job and livelyhood at stake.

I used an "auto" only because the "marine" was only available in a master kit at the time. The piece by itself was NLA for my engine. I called Fel-Pro and talked to their tech. He advised that in fresh water I should see no adverse problems.
