Automotive sending unit?

I am having a low oil pressure reading and rather than hook up a remote gauge I want to replace the sending unit. Are automotive units made different? I do not live near a Merc. dealer. Thank you. RR.

What are you working on? and what are the readings, it just might be normal.

I have another post with all the details but according to gauge it drops from 40 psi at 2000 rpm to 20 at 3000. I replaced oil filter and oil level always has been good and I did not run boat after changing filter. I found a Sierra unit not too far from my house. Thank you. RR
