Im willing to spend about $1200 AUD for a 4hp motor 2 stroke for my boat... (around $500 USD)

The rules are it must be the longest shaft possible, have an aluminium prop no resin/polymer prop bull****, and it must have F-N-R gears and an inbuilt tank..

Its going on a 4.33m runabout

From what i hear the smaller johnsons/evinrundes are unreliable poo poo's

And i have currently gotten quoted $980 on a brand new Tohatsu 4hp and $1000 for a Mercury 4hp

... Both are 2003 models etc. etc.

Basically when i saw the motors next to eachother i saw absolutely no difference.. They look exactly the same to me in every aspect.. Even the 50hp tohatsu's and 50hp Mercurys look the same

What should i get? Can you recommend any other motors? Are the johnsons/evinrudes any good? What other brand motors are available?

Thanks again guys.. Basically i have to get one soon and have to decide and need your views and knowledge to make the correct decision as I know a bit but i have never fooled around with small motors :D

One brand has to win me over :)

Hi, Jericho.

I believe that Tohatsu manufactures the Mercury. That would explain the similarity. :)

You must have heard the "poo poo" about little Johnson 4 strokes from someone who sells something else.

Tohatsus are very good engines and have an excellent reputation. I would have no fears in using one.

Good luck. :)

The guy that wants to sell me the tohatsu also sells evinrudes/johnsons and even though the johnson is more expensive he rather sell me a tohatsu

The tohatsu also has through prop exaust .. another plus ;)
