Auxilliary Outboard Motor Bracket

My boat has an auxialliary outboard motor bracket and I dont know what this is for. Can someone please explain?

So you can mount a small (typically 5-15HP) outboard motor. This can be either to troll with or to get you home in case your main motor dies.
