Looking at a repower and my Canadian Mercruiser dealer said that at some point in the future we will no longer be able to buy non-catalytic converter gas engines.
I've heard that the ECT version gas inboards are more expensive and trouble-prone. Anyone know when? What's the case in the US?

There will always be those of us who can figure a way around a sensor and come up with a solution to bypass it.
There are those who can plug a laptop into the engine and disable the sensors or create a resistance value to fool the computer.
And there are those of us who will simply not care how clean it runs, only that it does run.
And when their all done cleaning up the air from any kind of emission we will go back to bow, arrows, guns, and wood fires .
Of course no one will have a job because of emisssions ,so..........................................
No cars, no boats, no factories, no jobs

Only thing I hear about is all new boats shall have cats, you can still buy long blocks and swap what you have. It could very well be that any motors purchased from a OEM will go this way, but don't see it happening in the USA for everyone else.

I like the idea of keeping the air clean also, so long as what your buying works. Merc does not have a good reputation in this area

Ayuh,..... I'm a Mechanic,.... Why would I buy a brand new epa motor,....

Plenty of parts to keep SBCs, 'n BBCs runnin' for a good long time to come,....

A custom built reman is more motor than yer buyin' from production Mercruiser,....

Of course no one will have a job because of emisssions ,so..........................................

Ed, ya know I agree with ya, but We're skirtin' the political line,...... ;)

I would pull your 454 and build a 496 stroker. Crank kits are really inexpensive compared to a new EPA Cat motor
