...was the most awesome thing I have ever seen. Anyone else see it? Just saw it last night at the late showing. It was a great way to spend New Year's Eve.

visually stunning, other than that very predictable and way to long. i enjoyed only the first 45 minutes and only finished watching because its 4 dollars more to see in 3d.

I took the kids to see it yesterday afternoon. It is the ultimate tree-hugger movie but we thoroughly enjoyed it. I wish we could have seen it in 3D but it's not available in our area.

Did you have to do the colored glassed thing for the 3D or was it done some other way??

I was very impressed with the movie effects wise, the plot was very so so. What put me over the edge was the political undertones that I am so tired of these days. We almost never notice them (political undertones) they are so common place, but the movie industry is quickly becoming tiresome to me because of this. My list of nutcase actors that I boycott is growing, along with directors. Tom Cruise, Susan Sarandon, etc.

Cool movie in 3D. But seeing Avatar on New Year's? You are now officially in the Geek Club! The patch and vest are being mailed to you...... :);)
p.s. The meetings are on the 3rd Wednesday of the month. See ya there!

Re: Avatar in 3D (the movie)...

I keep meaning to pick up a couple of pair of 3d glasses when I go shopping. I have been collecting some 3d movies for some time now (since I bought my big screen monitor). I can't wait to see Avatar on it. Anyone know of other worthwhile 3d movies? I really hope 3d becomes a norm, as it is such a great technology.

I understand what others mean by political undertones in too many movies in recent years, but then again, it's a bit tough to avoid such undertones. Politics are dramatic, and even if you disagree with them they can make many a movie edge-of-your-seat just to find out the outcome. I consider it akin to if the bad guy wins or not. Either way you are enjoying the movie.. it's all fantasy anyway (just like politics ;)). Those who get persuaded by the undertones of as movie are persuaded by any fantasy you throw at them, so why miss a good movie as a result?

Well, a small update to my 3d glasses at home comment. I got some and tried out a few 3d movies I have. The result.. meh. They don't really work very well for my big 61" DLP. It seems as though they expect you to watch on a smaller 30-40" or something, as the "spread" of images is just too much for your brain to compensate. I ended up watching two of the movies with the glasses off most of the time. :( I want holographic monitors to come out. 3d is for the birds.

I thought it was great. I didn't mind the tree hug'n stuff too much because it was more part of the movie than a hidden message. I saw it more like the native American Indians way of seeing the earth as spirit filled and connected(although I don't agree with that either).
All in all the special effects were great and the action was great. That's what I wanted to see and I got my money worth.

If Al Gore would have shown up in the film, I would have left.

I only have vision in one eye so 3d movies don't work for me.:( We did go see the regular version and thought the visual aspect was pretty impressive though the plot was predictable. Actors should be worried. We my not need them much longer. This movie was a milestone for computer animation.

I saw it with 2 of my boys a couple weeks back and it was a blast.

My wife isn't much of a fan of any movie with blue people in it so I'm going to wow her with seeing it in IMAX 3D this weekend.

I've made her watch some movies she would have never watched on her own and now she loves them.
