Hi All,
I have a 1971 Evinrude Fastwin 25HP that has been sitting for 2+ years. I found a very complete thread on here that gave steps on "Awakening a Sleeping Motor" and have followed all of the steps. I have replaced the impeller and checked foot oil, cleaned the carb, checked for spark, and dropped some TCW-3 Oil into the cylinders.
I'm about ready to hook up a gas tank and test her, but I have a question. When the plugs are out of the motor, I can very freely pull the recoil and it will turn over like I am familiar with a motor turning (probably about 3-4 RPMs). If I put the spark plugs back in, I can only turn it over once (one chug of the exhaust) because it is so much harder to pull. I'm not a muscle-head or anything, but I am a healthy 6'3'' 200 pound 32 year old, so I'm pretty sure I should be capable of doing this.
Is this normal? Is one RPM enough to get it to catch or do I have an internal problem?
