There's no point in fighting it.... November means, snow soon. At least here in New England.
Here's my rig for covering up my boat. I'll use Bungee cords to hold the tarp down. That way, I can still have easy access to the interior. Even if it gets cold I can still do the rigging. :p
One other note... I looked all over for a good tarp. I found it at Overstock. com. I got a 14' x 20' er, 12 mils thick. $40 bucks. They have a special on shipping... $1 buck! how can ya go wrong?

Update....... I rounded off the ends of the 2x4's with my belt sander. Less chance of ripping the tarp.

The center board is regular 1x3 strapping. Overall it worked out nicely. The metal brackets will allow me to fold up the saw horses and store them away. A total seven peices....... easy:)

Ed, your support rigging there is fantastic. Any chance I could move this thread to the general boat section so others could benefit?

Looks good. I made a support system with 1" PVC and fittings. I made 3 "hoops" for the rear that go side to side and then another bent "stringer from the windshield to the transom. I also had to make another "stringer from the windshield to the rail so it wouldn't collect water up forward.

The "summer cover" with elastic on the botom fit too tight and trapped in moisture so I picked up a tarp at Harbor Freight that leaves room for air to circulate. I also placed pieced of drain pipe ofver the gunnels to make sure air could get in.

Just another way of doing it!

Sounds interesting...Got a pic?
I thought about PVC. I see it used often, but I didn't want to make up some sort of skeleton. I just couldn't come up with a plan to fit it into the criteria I had in mind.

1. Cheap

2. Simple

3. Self supporting

4. Easy storage in the spring

I like it. I built a center "truss" out of strapping with cross braces, and rested the front on my windshield frame (actual weight held by the cross-braced strapping) and in the rear on my motor. Two diagonal legs keep it upright.

Was cheap and quick but your way is much simpler to deal with. I like it! I haven't yet put mine away this year even though fishing is closed because I am hoping on calm days to do some trolling for Salmon on Champlain in December. No closed season on Champlain :) but a 14' Niagara makes you pick your days. 3' seas in 44 degree water just doesn't seem very wise...

Anyway, I think cold weather and/or snow is out of the question 48.3 weeks of the year...

Now that I had the frame built, I wanted to add one more thing.
I went to the big box store and got some 1/2" rubber pipe insulation.

I cut and fit a piece for each corner of the windshield, Sniped the insulation at the inside corners and glued.

Lastly, finish putting on the bungees and she's ready for a winter nap.;)

I have a custom fit cover for my '88 Four Winns and I built this frame out of wood...PVC pipes and some of those fiberglass crossbows you can buy at West Marine....it would work well for someone who wants to use one of the custom covers sold by West Marine or Overtons....

What a great idea. Mine is similar but yours is easier to put and take down. Hmmm. Next nice day I'm going to have change things around. Thanks for sharing. Beat part is, the boat can still breathe. I have mine so wrapped up, I'll be a week just untying it.

I was going to do some form of support for mine as well. the part that got to me was how to keep snow from pulling down between the supports. just as i was about to head to Lowe's to get some 3/8" plywood and some 1x3's i got word of a cheap indoor spot at the fairgrounds. $25/mo. and it is out of the elements all together.
