We all know that BOAT is break out another thousand. well, today I am going thru the various boxes of parts, hardware, wiring, props, etc. that has been procured for updating/repairing/maintaining the Rogue.

While I thought it was the high dollar items that were the bulk of it..... until I started going thru the receipts (bad mistake):facepalm:

stainless fasteners and hardware, toilet chemicals, polishes and waxes, canvas sprays and cleaners, drill bits, electrical terminals and fuse holders, replacement snaps, fire extinguishers, lubricants and filters all cost more then a set of props.

and I still cant find the battery powered blender...... so I guess Margaritas on the Rocks this weekend.

i've kept all my reciepts too. i don't need to go through them though to know that any and all of my extra cash going towards boating.. when you lean towards the poorer side of the spectrum. it's easy to see w/o documentation..:facepalm:

I refuse to keep any receipts. I put major items in the log book and the expensive stuff I remember! All the other things are simply the cost of owning it. Do you keep the receipts from grocery bills, telephone, clothes you purchased, fast food restaurants, etc? Anytime you stop at a 7-11 for a Coke and a candy bar, or a Blockbuster movie, or Home Depot for project supplies... you spend more on average everyday stuff that you don't even think about than you do on your boat.

stainless steel staples at HD... 10 bucks a box... I've gone through 2 and will need a third... let alone close to 500 bucks in fiberglass supplies...

Forget about the boat, I just had my trailblazer towed off my driveway because it keeps stalling. Even after I replaced the sensor based on the check engine light code. The boat doesnt give me as many problems as this trailblazer. Every 5000 miles the engine light is on????

I had a boat given to me by my dad (FREE) which is in excellent shape. I've spent probably a grand already on it. Some hobby we have huh.

+1. Just to FILL the gas tanks on mine (28 gallons and 2 stoke) is $125 min. Plus the Explorer goes from 21mpg to 14mpg towing. AHH-got to love it.

well, just spent another 2 boat units on fiberglass supplies, heads, intake, gaskets, cam, rockers, miscellaneous Volvo Penta bushings, o-rings and parts, etc.

+1. Just to FILL the gas tanks on mine (28 gallons and 2 stoke) is $125 min. Plus the Explorer goes from 21mpg to 14mpg towing. AHH-got to love it.

+1. The Maxum has a 65 gallon in her. It's not a nice feeling to have to swipe the card not once - not twice - THREE TIMES at the pump to get her from E to F. The truck drops to about 12mpg hauling her fat *** too. And this season we put a 4bbl carb on the 5.7 because she wouldn't rev out to operating RPM at WOT with the old 2bbl..... my wallet's gonna cry.

The list goes on and on..... But I'm not complaining. I enjoy spending all the time thinking about what to buy, finding the parts, installing, and then enjoying.....

I am a craigslist junky and pick up stuff like fenders(Taylor Made $10 each) and anchors(danforth/50 ft. new line/6' of chain for $25) for real cheap all new or in good shape. It is no different than fishing, just be patient.

I do the same whenver possible. I wanted to upgrade my anchor, too, and after 6 months of browsing CL found a Danforth deepset with 300' of rode for $75. My current rode is fine, so I'll swap anchors, put the old anchor on 150' of the newly purchased rode and try to sell off that combo. I bought a splicing fid and I'm using the other 150' to make permanent dock lines for the new slip I'll be using this year.

Another thing I've found for things like cabin and head supplies including plumbing hoses and faucets, new transom shower head/hose and similar items, is that the stuff made for RV's is exactly the same at 1/2 the price.

Any way you slice it, tho, owning a cruiser that resides at a marina year-round, costs a ton of money. I keep receipts for the big stuff as a selling aid when the time comes, and ignore the rest.

I wish. Better Days takes 120 gallons and my old F250 drops from 12mpg to 4mpg when towing her around.:facepalm: Fill them both up and I can crack $500 easy.

As for other costs, I've been rebuilding the extended swim platform this spring. It's been about 10 years since I bought Epoxy resin. Holy sticker shock Batman! I remember it being about $60/gallon and now it's $150. Ended up going cheap and buying the Polyester resin for $50/gallon. Still need all the stainless bolts, paint, non-skid and an under platform ladder. $$$

Try swiping 8 times (152 gallons)to go from E-F to fish the weekend on a 22' boat. Oh, can't forget the 3 gallons of 2 stroke oil to fill the oil tank.

I'll contribute some "Boat Units" (that's funny Scott Danforth) this 2012 season;

$2700 to freight the boat out from CA to MN
$2000 - in the process of rebuilding tandem galvanized trailer (brake conversion, wheels and tires, winch, springs, etc. misc)
$3500 estimate from Canvas Craft for Sunbrella bimini, front and side windows, and camper.
$1000 West Marine misc. supplies (gear lube, grease, new anchor rode, waxes and polish, toilet stuff, misc)
$900 - for Marina dry dock



....and she isn't even in the water yet............:facepalm:

Life long memories this Summer with the family and friends - priceless!!
