My Bravo 3 serial number is OL470685 and it's a 2:0. Something failed in it today and the pinion gear is completely destroyed. I can't even pull the U-joint assembly out of the driveshaft housing because the pinion teeth are all peened over which enlarged the diameter of the gear. I pulled large amounts of what looked like steel wool out of the thing and I have no idea how bad the damage really is, but I'm certain it's more than just the pinion gear...

Any tips on how to get the U-joint assembly out? I can't even think about rebuilding the thing if I can't take it apart.

The gear housing (lower unit) seems OK. I was thinking about bolting it to a used Bravo 1 driveshaft housing (upper unit). I found a complete used Bravo 1 with a serial number that also starts with OL and has a 1.5 ratio, for a good price. I think the driveshaft housing (upper unit) would be a direct replacement for mine. Am I correct? I figure I could just sell the Bravo 1 gear case (lower unit) to help offset the cost of my repair.

If it looks like this it was very low on gear oil.To remove it you have to grind off the ears first.

Ayuh,.... Replacin' it Might work, if you have the lower Rebuilt at the same time,...
They're common Oil, the lower is No doubt full of Crap from the upper, with gravity, 'n all...

Going from 2.00:1 ratio to 1.50:1 is a Major change,+ also be a Major Problem....
