Hi Everyone,
I bought a 1971 Starcraft Chieftain 21' last night. It's a nice project boat, it needs work, but it should be quite nice when it's done.
The engine is a Mercruiser 165 straight six and looks very clean. The boat has been sitting under cover for close to 20 years and doesn't look like it saw much use before that. The hull is in great condition and the interior is pretty decent, the floor does have a few soft spots, I plan on doing a complete replacement next Summer.
I'll take some pictures and post them in this thread later today.
Now for a few questions, what is the best way to go about waking up the engine? Is there anything I need to keep an eye out for? I was planning on changing the oil, filters, going through the ignition system and then giving it a whirl.
Also, are there any sources for replacement windshields for these boats, the front plexiglass windshield has a few cracks and I would like to replace it.
I'm sure I'll have other questions soon, but that's all I'm thinking of right now!
-Cheers,
Erik
