Not an easy job. Did mine over the winter so if I screwed it up I had time to punt. Depends on how the cable is supported around the gunnel. Mine was cable tied in with a lot of other wiring, control cables, etc. In other words I saw no way the large nut on the steering cable would pull through. So I sawed it in two with a hack saw at the rear near the nut. Man that's some tough steel! Took me awhile. Then the loose end running to the helm pulled through easily. Then you can remove the nut end easily also. When installing the new cable I used new hangers in places where I could reach. I did this by myself so I had to go slow and feed it through a few inches at a time. I used a shotgun cleaning kit to remove old grease, etc. from the tube where the new cable goes. Mine was 16 years old and showing it's age. Glad it did it. What a difference.
