A few years ago I had stopped at Dunkin Donuts on the way to the lake. I parked my truck and trailer with 21 foot Four Winns bow rider pretty far from the shop for an easy in and out. When I got the ramp I noticed the prop was dented from behind. Somebody had backed into the stern between my house and the ramp. The blades were fine but the disperser was pushed in about an inch (aluminum prop). Not a big deal 45 bucks to get it repaired plus a good reason to go get a SS.

Over the next two years the boat went down hill fast. I replaced both trim cylinders and the trim pump. Then I started noticing semi-circular stress cracks growing around the stern-drive. Maybe caused by the impact, maybe the age of the boat. The boat was 20 years old and if it were not for the dated design, this boat looked new and was a solid as they come. I do believe the impact caused this.

I got rid of the boat last year (a very painful and traumatic experience for me). To this day, I get the coffee before I hook the trailer up.

Re: Backed into

One of my biggest fears is getting hit on my way to the ramp. Coming back, not so much.

That just goes to show the inconsiderate people in the world just don't give a rats ***.:(
You can only hope that their car went down just as fast, if not faster.

Re: Backed into

I'm always fearful of getting rear-ended while pulling my boat. Sure, I have insurance, but just imagine the damage to not only the motor, but the transom too. I've been rear-ended twice in my pickup with not much damage on my end, but I don't suspect my luck would be the same if they rear-ended my boat.

Re: Backed into

I did get rear ended taking my boat to the ramp once.

Had a 88 Bayliner Capri/OMC Cobra. No great loss there lol

I got rear ended at about 20 mph at a light by a 2002 Volvo 4 dr. My trailer was pretty low to the ground, with bunks, so low i couldnt lower the drive all the way in the driveway.

The car was pretty bad. He rode up on the trailer and un-bent the S hooks on the tie downs, lifted the boat up. The skeg can openered his hood in half and the boat ended up sitting on his car. The skeg had landed on the roof piercing it too. The impact broke the welds on the Winch post. The boat almost slid up far enough to break the window in my Explorer.

I have pictures somewhere, I never found out what his insurance company said after he told them he totaled his car on a boat.

Got a good settelment out of it, paid for another boat
