I just wanted to share this, hoping that it might save someone in the future.
Earlier this month a family bought a little bowrider, apparently their first boat. From what I understand from the news report it was purchased at night or too late in the day to go out.
The next day Dad loaded everybody up and went out for a ride. Understand, the "season" hasn't officially started around here, and all the facilities and docks aren't yet set up.
Well, as they came screaming across the lake having a good time, there was a converted pontoon boat, a dock tender, crossing from one side to the other.
I can't specifically give details, as I wasn't there, but according to reports the bowrider collided with the tender at almost full throttle and everyone was thrown overboard. No one had a jacket on, and they lost their 16 year old daughter.
Please, if you're inexperienced take a safety course and never be ashamed to admit you're a new boater. The rest of us have no problem with sharing the knowledge. Wear your jackets and keep a sharp lookout.
