Clean it all properly and be sure all mating surfaces are in good condition. Buy an original gasket, to my experience they are a bit more 'solid' than the Sierra ones. Replace the O-ring on top of the drive shaft and lube the splines before assembly.
Having the powerhead off, it is easy to drop the lower at the same time and check/change impeller??

As Haffiman indicated, you may find a couple of powerhead base gaskets for that application. I've seen regular paper gaskets which won't last long before they fail. The more desirable gasket is a thicker one, with an aluminum core sandwiched between two paper gaskets. That one is robust and will provide reliable sealing for a much longer time.

thanks alot guys for the info, yes the aluminum one was what was on there so that what Im going back with, No sence in doing it twice just to save a few bucks. but i wanted to make ure there was'nt anything else I needed to change why I had it apart. the plate under the powerhead were the shaft goes nothing other then the seal needs to be replaced there? That would save me from pulling it again. Also is there anywhere I can order just that gasket and seal with out ordering the hold powerhead gasket set? Thansk again.
