bad coil

One spark wire wasn't firing so I got the flywheel off (thank you Autozone for lending me the gear puller), the person who put the flywheel on the crankshaft used some sort of red locktite cause that guy was ON THERE.

There is obviously a bad coil, it is cracked and nasty looking so there is the culprit. Now I need to replace that and am trying to find a match for my 1961 Evinrude LarkIII Longshaft 35524, can someone point me in the right direction, is this something that I may be able to find and pickup in Holland, MI or am I going to have to order it? Should I just do both of them and both spark wires while I have it apart?

Those coils are available all over the world. Well, I don't know about some places in the world. Anyhow, if you can't find them at a local dealer, there are plenty of them right here at iboats.

Clean those shaft and flywheel tapers and assemble them dry. Torque the nut to 100-105 ft/lbs.

EDIT: Oops, possible error on the torque. If the nut takes a 7/8" wrench, it is 60-65 ft/lbs. 1-1/16" nut takes 100-105.

Re: bad coil

Thanks for the tips!

The only markings on the coil are an M on one side and then a 6 4B, how do I use that info to find this coil?
