Someone told me that a float can actually get saturated. True?? If so what do you think would be the symptom of a saturated float? My 9.8 runs good for a while then sounds like it wants to die. I give it a little throttle twist and it will respond. Thoughts?

Re: Bad Float?

Sometimes in the carb is a tiny fuel filter, has this been checked?

I also had a float get stuck sometime in one of my carbs, i ran some seafoam through it and now it runs good as new. might try that before taking the carb apart.

If you do take the carb apart, it works well to soak everything in diesel to clean it all. I have done this before, and always has worked well when i put it all back together.

Those are my thoughts.

Re: Bad Float?

A saturated float will not float, and engine will flood, as the flow of gas will not be cut off when the bowl fills.

Re: Bad Float?

That makes sense. Thanks
I have rebuilt the carb with everything but the float and the idle mixture screw. I also rebuilt the fuel pump with everything but the check valve. I was not aware there was one until I looked in a book a while ago. Check valve controls the amount of fuel? Allows the fuel to go only one way? This motor runs OK but I am thinking that it can be much better. Problem is that I am new at the outboards and am still trying to learn.
