We recently had a fuel pump go bad on one of our Volvo 5.0's. We got a new Sierra Fuel pump and after only two weeks it went bad yesterday. We were out on the lake on our way back when the engine died. We cranked the engine to try and restart it then the engine seemed to stop cranking. Once we got back into dock we raised the hatch and saw fuel in the clear hose coming from the fuel pump. It was fairly late when we got back in and it felt like it was 100F so we only got two spark plugs on the port side taken out. Both were dry and clean with no fuel on them. Its hard to hear the engines while out on the lake so it may of been cranking and we just couldnt hear it. It wasnt cranked for very long at all once we thought it wasnt cranking, maybe 15-20 seconds total. Can so much fuel be pumped by the fuel pump through that little hose that it vapor locks the engine? Ill be taking the rest of the spark plugs out this weekend just to check. The battery was certainly not dead, it runs the controls for both engines(throttle and gear shifters are electronic) and it lets you know when the battery is low.
Ill be getting a Mallory Pump to replace the sierra pump(Under warranty of course).
