I have a '68 6hp that quits after a few seconds unless i keep pumping the primer bulb, it runs fine if i keep pumping the bulb. Is it a bad fuel pump, or bad primer bulb? If i have to rebuild the fuel pump do i need to get the kit with check valves or do i just need the regular kit?

That is usually a sign of a bad pump but check all your fuel lines first, especially the primer bulb. All should be soft and pliable with no cracks.

If pumping the primer bulb keeps the engine going, it's not likely the primer bulb. Air leaks, fuel pump, and pulse line line checks/replacement are all possibilities.
