Re: Bad Fuel

Varies! In these old design engines I have burned gas 5 years old that smelled like turpentine. Mixed with fresh about 50-50 proportion and the engine ran happily. And that was without stabilizer.

Re: Bad Fuel

Ran a tank of 2.5 year old gas thru mine this summer.

But some gas will go bad in a couple months, and if it has ethanol, and water in it, good luck.

Re: Bad Fuel

Okay. So anywhere from a couple of months to 5 years? Great! At least that gives me a range.

Good gas.If the tank is full it will last a very long time.Gas and outboard oil will seperate too.It takes a while but will eventuall.
Ethanol is a different thing. It will seperate after some time.
Fill your tank at the end of summer with good gas, good oil,no ethanol. Stabilizers are needed for Ethanol and good gas.
In the spring after running a while check the water/fuel filter for water.
The more gas in the tank equals less condensation you will have.J

Or just move to Fl.We don't have to worry about winterizing:)

Re: Bad Fuel

It's becoming more important to use an ethanol stabilizer. I hate these new "gasolines".

Re: Bad Fuel

I emptied about 6-7 gallons that was left in my tank and poured it in my truck. It was a little over a year old and the truck ran fine mixed with fresh gas. I'm going to do this every year so I dont have to worry about fuel problems in the outboard.
