Bad gas, now no spark?

I have a 1999 115hp Yamaha which has no fire on any plugs. All started this weekend when about 5 minutes after leaving the launch, the engine suddenly loss power and the engine loss rpm's and finally died. I cranked the motor, which started and then died after a couple seconds. checked the fuel filter, and the float was floating indicating water in the fuel. Emptied the filter a kept cranking, hoping to catch some good fuel, but nothing.
When I finally got in, drained the fuel tank, changed spark plugs, and recharged battery. Now I can't get a spark on any plugs(tried old plugs again also). I did notice a few droplets of water on the plugs, dried these with compressed air, but still nothing. Not sure where to go from here. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

are you sure its spark? did you flush the carbs and fuel lines between the engine filter and the carbs?
what method are you using for testing spark ?

Re: Bad gas, now no spark?

Thanks for the response rodbolt, I flushed and drained all the old fuel out. I checked for spark by removing plug from block, connecting ignition wire to plug and cranking engine looking for any fire, but nothing. Thanks again.

are you sure the stop lanyard is in place?
do you have any toolsand diagnostic test equipment such as a DVM and a service manual?

I have the Selco repair manual, (not sure what the DVM stands for), but I have a meter that tests resistance, volts, amps, etc. Yeah, the lanyard is in place. Everything sounds fine, cranking sounds strong just no fire. Do you think something could have been hurt by cranking it to keep trying to catch good gas? I only cranked two-three times then let it rest for a few minutes. Also the water droplets on the plugs concerned me as well. Thanks for your help.

Re: Bad gas, now no spark?

try testing for spark with all plugs removed, ground whatever plug leads are not being tested with either a spark tester or a jumper lead.
if it fails to jump a minimum 1/2" gap the perform the resistance tests for the stop switch, and charge coils.
always remember, once water is in a carb the ONLY way to clear it is manually flush it.
with no alarm at cranking either the alarm horn does not work or the stop circuit is working.
if the white stop wire is grounded and an attempt at cranking is made it should set the audible.

Re: Bad gas, now no spark?

Well, I now have fire. Today I noticed that I had no power to my console switches (int. lights, bilge pump, etc) I checked the fuses and the last one I checked had some water in it. Changed it out and I had power to my console. Tried to crank motor one last time, and to my surprise got some fire. Motor sputtered then died, probably need to double check for water in fuel line again, just glad the spark is back. Being a novice to the whole electrical aspect, why would a fuse out affect spark plug fire?
Also, any tips on making sure all the water is gone? Is it necessary to open up the powerhead?

Thanks for your help.
