95 7.4L wellcraft.4 barrel Webber. 2 weeks ago I pulled her out to get it ready for the season. I had put stabil inb the gas before the parking her. I did not fill the tank to the top, just added stabil.. Upon trying to crank her, i ran the battery down without any hint of firing. I opened the throttle to look down the carb and see a pool of fuel sitting in the intake manifold. I suspected bad gas, so I opened the throttle WFO, towed the boat to the pump and added 10 gallons of fresh fuel, let the battery charge 4 hrs, put the muffs back on and within 5-10 cranks she started and I let her run for 15 minutes or so.

Fast forward 1 week, tuesday.....i add 6 more gallons of fresh gas and go to the lake.....nothing. no single cylinder fire. I treat it like fuel starved and pump it several times. Nothing. I treat it like it's flooded, nothing. I now have a pool of fuel again in my intake.

So I tackle this job again this weekend friday. Spark: I've got blue spark on all 8 plugs. I spray a shot of starter fluid in the intake and get a fire or 2 then nothing. I crank until again i have a pool of fuel in intake. I think now I have a float that's not working. i take the carb apart and set the float to 33mm per the manual. I check to see if the needle/seat are functioning and they appear to do the job. The fuel inside the bowl shows no signs of water but i can't say it's an overwhelming gas stench. I put it back together. I dry the intake thoroughly using a paper towel to absorb then a leaf blower to finish up to make bone dry. I reinstall carb, put a shot of ether, i get one or 2 fires then nothing. I do this same procedure 2 more times checking the carb for anything suspicious and still nothing other than a single hit after a shot of ether.

I'm stumped. My only other thought is bad gas settling to the bottom and that's all I'm getting to the carb.

Ayuh,.... I'm thinkin' ya might be Right...

Dump the fuel filter, 'n inspect the contents for crud, 'n water...
Install a New filter, 'n plumb a remote fuel source to the fuel filter housin', by-passin' yer tank...
'n Try it...

Have you changed fuel filter(s)?

Not yet. Installed one has 30 hrs on it but I will get another. I'll get back on this today by using alternate fuel source and purge all the current fuel in the lines and carb and see what I get.

GOT HER RUNNING!!! I disconnected tank fuel line, purged fuel from lines to carb, dumped carb bowl gas, added a new fuel filter, plumbed an auxillary fuel source to fuel pump, then turned the switch. Within 5 seconds she fired up. The really hard part was getting all 32 gallons of gas out of the tank and disposing of it. what a PITA.

My experience should be a poster child for today's shelf life for gas. I had put 16 gallons of new gas on top of 16 gallons of gas from Oct "11. the Oct '11 gas had been treated with the old STABIL, not the Ethanol Stabil.

My bad gas experience should be a sticky for "BAD GAS SYMPTOMS"
