Bad Gas. What should I do now???

I bought a boat about a month ago. During the test drive everything seemed fine But it was windy & choppy on the water so we missed some of the symptoms. After we picked up the boat we took it out on the lake we noticed it running bad. At higher RPM & under load it was backfiring. At low RPM or idle it ran perfect. There was also a faint surge or sluggishness, the oil smelled like gas & the plugs were a bit wet.

Took a sample of gas & it was a darker orange color not the normal yellow & it had an odd smell.

Since then we have
- Replaced the sparkplugs
- replaced the oil & filter
- drained the gas
- added about three more gallons & drained that as well
- topped off the gas tank

The next time we took it back out on the lake & it seemed to be running better but still backfiring occasionally (usually when we let off the throttle a bit)

Since then I added some Lucas Injector cleaner and ran it for a couple hours at idle only (I was only able to get to a No-Wake lake that day). It ran fine but it has always run fine at idle.

I have burned through about half of the tank since replacing gas. What should I do next & have I done the right thing to this point? What else should I do?

My engine is a 5.7 350 MAG Mercruiser MPI. serial # M320848

OK so I am praying like you suggest but I don't know what good that's going to do.

What should I watch for? Should I do anything I haven't done yet? how will I know if the injection system is polluted? & if so, what then? Will the injector cleaner do any good?

I forgot to mention in the first post that the fuel filter was changed. It did, however, have a few gallons of the old gas go through it before we drained the gas. Should I change it again?

First discipline the gas for being bad.

Oh, and change the filter a few times.
