Bad Gas?

I started my boat yesterday (87 Force 85hp) with the gas left over from last season. The gas has stabilizer in it. The engine started right up and ran normally. It will probably sit around for another few weeks or so. Should I be concerned about the old gas sitting in the carbs?

Re: Bad Gas?

Run it for awhile after disconnecting the fuel line,

what I do, is disconnect the fuel, then wait, as soon as it either starts reving abit more due to the mixture leaning out from lack of fuel or it starts missing abit, then kill it..

that way your fuel lines and carbies are pretty much empty. I don't usually wait for it to die by itself from lack of fuel because that if precious seconds without fuel, and that means no oil, and that means big wear fast..

Depending on your float bowls capacity, it can take up to 3 minutes to empty out completely, but I find in about 2 mine starts reving a tiny bit more, and I kill it.

just a tip I use whenever I do my final check before packing the outboard away for awhile.

rgds

Frank
