hi all,

Just serviced my 1986 30hp last week,New gear oil, carby clean and impeller, all was good and run for an hour after the work, pumping heaps of water and everything seated back in well.

I decided today i would pressure spray the engine to clean years of grease/grime and crap from it,after cleaning and rinsing i started it,it farted and carried on for around 20 seconds then stalled and now whenever i pull the pullstarter it kicks back and nearly tears my arm off.

Any ideas what i have damaged/done while cleaning.

thanx

is there any chance, that ive played with the throttle that much its just very full of fuel,or have i bumped timing or something like that,I just tried again, and it still wants to dislocate a shoulder.

May have gotten water in the carbs. Pull the plugs and crank the motor to expell anything that might be in the cylinder. Then spray some premix or seafoam in the cyl and crank some more. Dry the plugs, put back in and try it. You also may have to pull the flywheel and make sure its dry under there.

Re: bad kickback on pullstart 30hp Evinrude

found the problem,

There was a spring missing on the throttle linkage that kept the timing plate in sync with the throttle, all the old grease was holding it in place and when i cleaned it, it freed it up allowing the timing plate to just sit stationary during all throttle ranges, therefore horribly advancing timing during startup.

Problem now rectified, motor is running like a dream, and my arm no longer hurts
