Has any body ever had a coil test OK but put off a spark? I installed 2 new coils and tune-up kit. One side was fine the other nothing. Check every thing 2 more times. finally switched the good coil over ... SPARK. Tested the coil as per Doug Penn.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KT8rk5QWgS0&feature=channel_page shows good. can they have a bad pick-up and still test good? This was my first recoil job and wanted to be sure so i changed every part twice.

Re: Bad new coil

Randy, Sounds like you had some bad luck. Usually coils are easy to test and the test is reliable. Sometimes they get some salt on the case and arc over to ground. I suppose they could have a partial short in the primary or secondary winding.

Re: Bad new coil

Yea I think the pick-up has to be bad. Before I called iboats to return the bad one I reinstalled it one more time and still nothing. I've installed the good one on both sides of the plate and it works great. Of course iboats has already got me an ra # and all will be fine soon. That's just the way my luck goes.At least its not spring and wanting to go fishing:D
