Yesterday my motor would not fire off. I got the engine to run today. Then when I stopped it the ground terminals on the battery were hot (blisters on my fingers hot). I looked at the ignition switch and one of the six terminals was broken off. Now when I turn the key it does not turn over. However if I jump the starter sylenoid it cranks. Also, the trim will not work unlsee I jump the sylenoid. Is there something in the ignition that would cause this?

You need to start off with a new switch. It would help to know exactly what motor you have. Check all your battery connections. They must be very clean and tight.

Loose or dirty battery cables can get hot enough to melt.If you're using wing nuts throw them away and use locking nuts and washers.
