Bad reeds or somthing else

I have oil running down the out side on the left of the unit between the engine and lower unit is this an indication i need to have the reeds changed ?the engine is a 1997 force 75 hp with 1carb. Is this somthing i can do my self? Or at least check THANKS

Probably just unburned gas/oil.Everytime you tilt it up it will leak fuel out and it will drain down.
Bad reeds:missing,poor performance, gas comming back out the front of carb.
Do a compression/spark test.
If really worried pull the carb and look behind it with a good light.Any BIG gaps or broken reeds?

I picked up a powerhead with bad reeds a year or two ago. They were so bad i couldnt even get it started. It would only backfire every once in a while. Tore it apart and the reeds were garbage and had scored cylinders.
