Hi did a compression test on my 1969 55 horse outboard and found I had none on #1 cyl. #2 120psi, #3 120 psi, pulled the head off and found that #1 piston was shot rings bent slight scoring on wall top of piston looks like someone through hydrochloric acid in the cyl. it was a bad sight. but there was good news after this #2 and #3 pistons looked normal. Now how hard would it be to change the number 1 piston what am I looking at in replacing it. what is involved with this task.any help is welcome. thanks bob

get the manual
www.outboardbooks.com

pull the powerhead, strip it down and take the block to a marine machine shop, they'll measure it and tell you, probably need boring oversize, new piston and rings.

why did it happen?

not sure why it happened ran good last season except not getting out of forward ran like that all season last year did voltage test on it and posted the results here and no response from any one yet. Still waiting. After I pulled the head and found this out # 2 and # 3 cyl look fine. ???

I'd look for dirt in that carb, thats all it takes to burn a piston, or carbon on the piston ring.

Part of the reason you might not be getting response is the way you write, its a difficult read when someone fails to use comma's and changes subject in the same sentence.

The engine experts read very quickly and if they can't understand it they just give it a pass and move on to the next message.
