I was looking to see if there is a way to check if a thermostat is working while its still installed in the motor?

I know how to check if its been removed. I didn't want to tear one out just to see if one was working and replacing gaskets ect. just for a diagnosis issue.

My thought on the issue if I'm going to tear it out just to check it I wouldn't waste time testing it I would just put in a new one.

If you had a temperature gun you could watch for a sudden change, or use the palm of your hand the same way. Which makes me wonder if a kitchen thermometer might do the same, let you know if/when it opens, although the read would not be correct.

All that would just be to see if it's opening but would tell you if its opening at the right temp.
