OK here's the rest of the story....

91 Johnson 225

went out to the boat to get something first thing in the am, found the motor had trimmed itself up ???? and the motor was running and I know not how long. smacked the switch on the side of the motor pump shut down.....

came home from work to ready the boat for the next day of fishing and the motor wont start....no spark ! check a few things, no melted wires I can see. disconnected the red plug and trim wires from the motor tried to jump starter and still it wont start. no spark.

did something happen to the rectiefier. I tired swapping out the power pack and no change.

Is the battery dead or really low? Some of those motors depend on battery voltage to the powerpack, during cranking, to have spark.

Have your battery load tested. The mtr has to turn over 250-300rpm for the ignition to fire. You probably have a bad tnt switch in the cowling or the control handle.
