1977 Mercury 1150, changing out solenoid, and mine doesn't match the manual...
I know the PO changed the charging system from a stator and rectifier to a newer style rectifier/regulator, but I don't think this has anything to do with it? I could be wrong.
Anyways, the manual I have shows the solenoid terminals as having 5 wires across the 4 posts.
From what I can gather in the troubleshooting section, other than the big positive battery terminal and the positive terminal leading to the starter, what's S and I?
The guy also disabled the kill switch, and that's the neutral start switch?
So that would explain 4 wires, so S is positive from the battery and I is ground/starterswitch?
Will it damage the solenoid if they get hooked up backwards?
The internal harness is so old someone cut most of the adapter head up to pull out the very small couple inches of wiring left in it, so it's a bit hard to see wire colors from the harness...(but from what I've found so far, it's a harness for a 1979, the PO said it was a 76 engine as well, but the serial is from a 77)

Thanks very much for any input!!
