Do you find your water lubed bearings suffer with all that shallow water and sand? if so how much, do you check your bearings yearly?
I've got a friend whose looking at protecting his with a device to keep the sand out...but I wonder if its really a problem?

Re: Bahamas boats question

Tell your friend not to worry. Whoever thought that one up had a good imagination. I spent 2 yrs cruising in the Bahamas and it isn't a problem. The water isn't dirty enough to accelerate cutless bearing wear. It's less of a problem in the Bahamas than running in rivers here in the USA. You can run 2000 hrs in the rivers before a cutless gets worn.

Thanks Bill,
Its just that on the East coast UK, we can see cutlass bearings and shafts worn in less than one season, just through sand and silt, mainly river estuaries so mainly silt. The product hes looking at gives virtually maintenance free cutlass bearings.
