I searched the forum the best I could and couldnt find the answers I am looking for. Sorry if I missed it or this is a repeat question... My bait tank did not have a pump to keep fresh water flowing through the tank so needless to say I am installing one. First of all I did not know there was an airator pump and a fresh water pump and didnt find out until I had purchased the airator pump... Is there a difference? Will this still work properly? I installed a below the waterline through hull fitting, attached a hose from the through hull fitting to the intake. (I installed it this way so if there is a malfunction there will be atleast a little resistance and slow the flow a little). On the output of the pump I am installing it in the bottom of the bait tank to fill from the bottom up in hopes it will keep the water circulating. spill over at the top... I do not have a cut off valve in place and didnt even consider it when I chose the location for the pump... Not accessable without removing the factory rod holder on the port side. Any suggestions? If the pump stops working will the water still feed into the tank or flow out of the pump?

Re: Bait Tank Plumbing and pump questions.

An intake below the water line must have seacock on it. Not a cheap plastic shut-of valve, but an actual seacock. Otherwise you’re setting yourself up for a disaster especially if you used plastic fittings.

To answer your flow question. Use a scoop type intake and the water will just fine thru the tank while underway w/o running the pump. The only time I run my pump is when anchored or adrift.
